Runnels County Register
DNA testing recently connected me with a cousin I didn’t know about. She’s a delightful 83-year-old who not only knew my Granddad, she knew HIS father, aka my great-granddad. He was a county jailer in Ballinger in the early 1900s and earlier had been one of the paid workers (as opposed to the convict labor) on the Texas Capitol construction project. Cousin Joyce Daffern and I met for the first time earlier this month in Ballinger, and the local paper, lacking any substantive news to cover that day, did an article on us.
